My bedroom is one of my favourite places in the world. It has all these little treasures that I have collected from my travels in different countries, and some I have stumbled upon down the road.
HOME
Ok, I'll admit it. I am a complete hermit.
I adore my home and the idea of this little bit of space that is all mine to create a sanctuary of comfort. While the old me spent days searching for the ideal outfit, the new, and somewhat wiser me, has a new obsession. Filling my home with the perfect pieces. I'm not kidding. It took me six months to decide on a couch. Renovating has become the new 'IT' project. Thanks to reality shows like The Block and House Rules, everyday Joe's have the confidence to move into a shell of a house and transform it into something truly spectacular. After searching the house market for the better part of a year, myself and my partner fell in love with this 1930 Art Deco apartment in picturesque New Farm. Aside from the leafy lined streets, the Saturday markets and the cute as a button cafes, this suburb has a beautiful sense of history. I love the fact that my home comes with so many untold stories from the olden' days. It truly was the little details that captured our hearts. Like the black and white checkered tiles in both the bathroom and kitchen. With historical features, the traditional high ceilings and decorative cornices we new this is where we wanted to call home. All this place needed with some gold old TLC. Over the past year we have spent weekends transforming faded walls into crisp white surroundings, adding touches of contemporary furniture and learning the difference between our Ikea tool kit. Yep, we are well and truly domesticated now. While we still have a bit to go, I can't explain how much love has gone into making this house a home. I hope you enjoy your sneak peak inside our little white room. I am in love with candles. There is nothing more calming then relaxing in a bath with a good book and the beautiful aromas of a candle burning. But in case you didn't realise, candles can be expensive. For some of the higher end candles you can spend upwards of $60.
With my recent renovations project bleeding me dry, I was forced to look into alternatives to my candle obsession, so instead I thought I would attempt to make my own, and since I have not bought one candle. The initial products may set you back approximately $50, but then you are free to make your own candles for yourself and all your loved ones, plus the added bonus that they are home made, and that's pretty cool. You will need: - Soy wax - Wicks - Glass containers - Essential oils - A heat proof measuring/pouring jug - Wick holder (or a pen will do) - A skewer For supplies I used Aussie Candle Supplies. Step 1: Fill the measuring jug with wax (depending on the size of the glass container you may need to add some more or less.) Step 2: Place the heat proof jug (I used Pyrex) into a pot of water and bring to the boil. Step 3: Once all wax is melted remove from the pot of water and add your essential oils (approximately 40 drops). Today I am using Caramel Vanilla. Use the skewer to stir the essential oil around. Step 4: Fasten the wick into the centre of your glass container by using the wick holder. If you do not have a wick holder, simply wrap the top bit around a pen and balance across the top of the glass. Step 5: Begin to pour the wax into the glass container. Be careful, it's very hot. Step 6: Leave candle aside for 4 - 6 hours while it sets. Step 7: Once set, trim the wick down using a sharp pair of scissors and burn for 20 mins. Step 8: Enjoy whilst relaxing in a bath, reading a book or gift to friends for something really personal. |
